Chennai- Why Do they dread Coming here....
South Indians love calling it their home, but the North part of India absolutely dread coming here. But why on Earth would people fear coming to such a lovely and literally warm( not hot) place. Well let me do away with some of the mis-conceptions about the city.
I am from West Bengal and I call Chennai- HOME.
To start with the city is as safe as a FBI safe house. Our ladies can walk alone at midnight without abominated about being raped, mugged or murdered. Now that itself eliminates most cities whose people hate this lovely city. We love and respect the woman race here. In no out of control crowd can we find men going out of control on women. That's the culture Chennai carries with it.
Not good enough reason to make your moms, sisters and daughters feel safe. Well then let me give many more.
Education- Top class education is offered, and a top school of India operates in almost every locality of the city. A stone thrown in chennai is most likely land on the head of either an engineer or a doctor, that's what this land has to offer you- GOOD EDUCATION along with GREAT CULTURE. We do not teach our kids to make MMS nor do we teach them to disrespect woman.
Not good enough reason that your kid gets good education and becomes a successful person later. I know why let me address all your complaints first.
You complaint about bad weather, bad food. Haaaa none of us were born in Switzerland to complaint bout the city being hot. Come and stay here and you will get used to living the so called heat( Its not that HOT please).The weather is bearable heat unlike what most complaint.
Post October we do have our share of pleasant weather. Nice rains, complimented by the scenic ECR makes good for a long drive or ride as we like to do it here. The traffic has more sense than most cities in the country. Rules are respected and followed. Cops are strict where and when required and no fancy names can bail you out easy here. And yes we do respect the cops too.
How many cities can boast of great beaches like that of Besant Nagar, Marina, RTO, Pebbles and many many more. The beaches are not just a fun place to be with the sand and sea but its a clean place to be too unlike most beaches in our country. The government actually does take care of it all you see. And the people here have enough sense not to mess it around too. That's CHENNAI for you. Clean and beautiful.
Now lets come to the food.
Yes we survive on our Dosa and Idly cos we love them, just like you love your Parathas and Rotis. We still have some of the best places for all kinds of cuisine and chaats in the city. We have a lot of North Indian people calling Chennai their home. In case you are new to the place let me help you with a few place. Me being a Bengali and in turn being a foodie I can really elaborate on this section.
We serve all kinds of food from bengali to punjabi, from delhi wala chaat to kolkatta sweets. You want it and we have it alright.
For good Bengali cuisine head to Bay leaf in Goplalapuram, for good Punjabi cuisine I recommend Dhabba Express having branches across the city. For good chettinadu head to Karaikudi, for multi-cuisine the list is way to big serving great food. For Arabic I recommend sea shell in Greams Road. For chaats nothing can beat Gangotri in Chennai.We even have specialized Jain catering food joints. The city basically has loads to offer for everyone. All this and more at affordable rates. We have our share of expensive joints too to cater the ultra rich serving mouth watering food too. I will be writing one more blog very soon on just the food joints across the city. Stay tuned for the same.
So your food and weather problem solved.
Now the survival factor of any city. If you do not work, you do not earn and in turn you will not enjoy living in any city. But guess what the city has more jobs to offer than you can think of......
Think of any big company and they are present here. From TCS, CTS, WIPRO, ACCENTURE, WORLD BANK, AMERICAN EXPRESS, KOTAK MAHINDRA, HDFC, HIRCO, IBM, DELL, SCOPE AND much more.
Companies of various fields call Chennai their hub of all major business transactions. Chennai truly has a lot to offer in terms of good on power employment to most cities in the country and in most cases a much better situation. There is a job for everyone here.
Now what do we do with all the money we earn. People complaint the party and fun scene in Chennai is sad. Well that's what everyone who has not stayed here say. I love to let my hair down and the city confuses me on what my weekend itinerary must look like.
Top class clubs, pubs, awesome picnic zones, a fantastic bird sanctuary, luxurious malls and world class amusement parks, adventure sports. The city has it all.
Well now you know the city takes care of you in every form of it. Starting from your education your job your security and your fun. Come be a part of the city I call HOME and make it yours too. Chennai you can never have enough of it.
Warning- If you love waking up to reading rape stories in your neighborhood, discussing murder cases that happened in your city and talking all day gossip about safety of women this place is not for you. If you wanna have a peaceful life Chennai is ever welcoming. Come and live life our style. Do not get carried away with what Bollywood has to say and show about Chennai, cos they do not even know the difference between Lungi and Vesti for God's sake. And all they have to show are ugly people. The place is filled with smart men and beautiful women. In fact Bollywood themselves got so many from us.
